Quick update | Corsair RAM, Pentium 4, overclocking fail
// February 16th, 2009 // No Comments » // Others
It’s been a while since last update.. but I received a new package — Pentium 4 560 pulled from an old Alienware along with the motherboard. Special thanks to my buddy for it.
It was a bit surprising when I got the package. Just by shaking it I could hear the board slide around inside. After opening it up I saw that there was no cushion in the packing; just the motherboard and CPU wrapped in a plastic bag (not anti-static), thrown into a USPS Priority mail box. The socket was open and the CPU was in the box. The CPU could have fell out of this hole on the corner of the box.. luckily it didn’t.
On another note, here’s my new Corsair DDR3 RAM. 1600 MHz, 9-9-9-20-1T @ 1.8V. Haven’t had a chance to try it out until now.
Here it is installed onto my Foxconn BlackOps.
And now the Pentium 4 560. The printed text on it is faint but still semi-readable.
The overclocking setup. I didn’t have my Corsair PSU with me so Antec Basiq it is. Also, all I had was the Intel Stock Cooler.
Firing it up.. it works (after all that abuse in the mail)! But what do you know? The Pentium 4 doesn’t support 64bit OS.
I spent about an hour overclocking the chip.. found out in the end I made a mistake with my RAM. It was severly downclocked, holding back my CPU. I was wondering why I couldn’t get it very high. Looks like I’ll have to resort to software overclocking. Due to school I will have to try again during spring break.
Surprisingly this was the only P4 560 on HWbot.

And just to test and make sure, the motherboard, Abit Fatal1ty AA8XE, works too.
More on the P4 later when I re-overclock it.

Little late on the post but motherboard for dry ice is in. Below are just a few pictures.

Foxconn Black Ops x48.
Not much time to play with it due to college starting the day after. Also, the BIOSĀ is confusing with all the tweaks — but here are some CPU-Z Validations.
